Snoop Dogg’s Spiritual Evolution…..or Is It?

You know what they say, “Any attention, positive or negative is good in the entertainment industry. Keep them talking.” Well ‘they’ are doing just that! Whether you are a hard core, Snoop fan or a Reggae artist/enthusiast, you are talking. Unless you have been under a rock somewhere, I am quite sure you have heard by now the Snoop Dogg is now dubbing himself as Snoop Lion. We wrote about this back in July and are providing that link below. But for now…..

It all started with a trip to Jamaica. Snoop was in search of “a new path”. He is quoted in a news conference stating:

“I didn’t know that until I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, ‘Snoop Dogg.’ And he looked me in my eyes and said, ‘No more. You are the light; you are the lion.’ From that moment on, it’s like I had started to understand why I was there.”

Now, don’t get me wrong; I am not out to “dog” the Dogg (pun intended). I just want to reason this out for myself and anyone else who wants to chat bout.

Let’s start with the first release, “La La La” from “The Lion’s” first upcoming release “Reincarnated” Take a listen and then we will get back to our chat……

OK, now that we have that out of the way….. Did you happen to take a look at the comments on the video? This will give you a pretty good feel for how the people are ‘taking to’ Snoop’s alter ego.

Now,we really cannot go any further in this conversation until we address one VERY important matter. That is the matter of Snoop ‘Lion’claiming to be Bob Marley reincarnated, and we quote:

“I have always said I was Bob Marley reincarnated,” Lion said. “I feel I have always been a Rastafari. I just didn’t have my third eye open, but it’s wide open right now.”

Again, we are not judging here but let’s look at this:

Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. aka Snoop Dogg, Snoop Lion is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, record producer, and actor, well known by his alter-egos Snoop Doggy Dogg, Snoop Dogg and Snoop Lion. Snoop Lion has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. He was born October 20, 1971 (age 41). Now, I don’t know about you, but in order to be reincarnated, don’t you need to not be here? In other words, Bob was still very much alive when Snoop was born, and passed away in 1981, when Snoop was not quite 10 years of age. It would be more believable if Snoop said that he is ‘channeling Bob and Bob’s energy.’ But Bob reincarnated? This statement has angered and infuriated many Reggae Artists, fans and Jamaicans, and rightfully so. It’s one thing to say that you are evolving as a human being and are choosing another path in your life, but another thing altogether for you to make this claim…

In a NY Daily news article written in July 2012, Snoop was quoted as saying:

“I’m a wise man in the music industry,” he said. “Not that I’ll never do rap again because I’m always gonna do what I love, but right now I’m Snoop Lion and I’m having fun with this reggae movement so hopefully you guys will enjoy it as well.”

So for now… C’mon on Snoop!! Let’s listen to the next single now called ‘Here Comes the King’ My attention was drawn to this by a Cedella Marley post on facebook mainly because of the (yet again) very negative comments. I thought, hmmm let’s listen to this next single to see if we can find some understanding with this one….. Here it is….

Now, notice this one thing… the majority of the comments on the soundcloud recording are positive…. interesting. The comments on Cedella’s post go something like this:

Babylon wolf , dressed like a Sheep..Cho..i cant understant that you are leaving that this pimp, call himself Bob´s reincarnation

Rasta imposter…

Gangsta/Pimp image is not good, especially if you have children. Only time will tell if this is for real. Until then we should all welcome Snoop’s lifestyle change.

Whom InI to see what’s in another Bredren heart? Judgement pon him that bring foolishness into the temple of RastafarI

Jah says, “I did not come to heal the healthy but the sick”… regardless of who snoop were, dat was his past. Now he wants to redeem himself in the faith of Rastafari. We should welcome this lost yout and be honored that he chose to be a part of this flock. I hate the fact he is saying that he is Bob reincarnated but I am irie that he wants to associate himself with the great one. Bob lives forever in his music and moreso, in all of us. JAH RASTAFARI !!!

Ok, now you know… So what do YOU think? We want to hear your thoughts!! Should we ‘give a Dogg a bone’? (pun intended) Couldn’t resist!!
