September 16 was a true conscious party at the picturesque Penn’s Peak in the beautiful town of Jim Thorpe, PA. We have been blessed to have Ziggy play two shows in the area within a week. Ziggy couldn’t have chosen a better venue to start the close-out of his “Rebellion Rises” tour. Penn’s Peak is located atop a lush mountain with 360 views of the valley. Indoors it looks like an open barn, with beautiful wood beams. The acoustics are pristine and the staff treats you like family.
I arrived early to take in the view and to speak with the beautiful people. We were treated to a dream-like sunset which really set the mood before Ziggy’s powerful 90 minute set. Ziggy and his band came on stage just after 8pm to a house full of eager fans. Ziggy entered last with his fist in the air, a silent salute to fans young and old. This is one of my favorite things about a Marley show. People of all ages, colors and creeds come together for a night of personal rebellion in the form of music.
Ziggy and his band treated us to several tracks of his latest album “Rebellion Rises.” Everyone in the crowd was transfixed by the message Ziggy was bringing. It is always nice to have a distraction from the troubles of a leader who will say just about anything to get press. Ziggy’s music calls for worldwide spiritual awakening. It speaks of issues that should be brought to everyone’s attention: freedom of the mind and spirit, saving this beautiful planet we call home and most importantly, a call for us to be true to ourselves. Ziggy’s set really spoke to the fans lucky enough to be at Penn’s Peak last Sunday. Not only did he open people’s minds to the new material, he also treated us to fan favorites.
Ziggy’s tour closes out this week in Canada. We at Island Stage are humbled as always to be allowed access to select shows. We wish Ziggy and the band a safe journey home.
