Kingston, Jamaica – Friday, August 7, 2020: The first born of Bob and Rita Marley, Cedella Marley is a descendant of reggae royalty.  Her creative accomplishments are well-known: award-winning recording artist, producer, author, and fashion designer.  Cedella’s innovation and creative awareness continue to play an integral role in her leadership as CEO of the Bob Marley Group of Companies which includes Tuff Gong International (the label founded by her parents), the Bob Marley Foundation and Bob Marley Museum.  Additionally, Cedella oversees Marley Holdings, a Marley family entity that manages all aspects of the Bob Marley rights, including the rights to Bob’s name, image and likeness.

Cedella will receive the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD) for her work with Jamaica’s national women’s football programme.  Her recognition comes from her six years of dedication to the Jamaica Reggae Girlz in securing financial support and global awareness for a team of resilient young women and other local community female football programmes.  This journey saw the women’s senior national team qualifying and participating in the first-round of the FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted in France June of 2019.

“Being Jamaican is something I proudly promote everywhere I go, with the intention of garnering the same love my family and so many other Jamaicans have for our home country.  The culture is a pot my family keeps stirred with rich talent, not just from us but from so many other skilled musicians, artists and producers,” says Cedella in response to the news of being an awardee.  “As for football, I initially knew nothing about the game other than daddy loved its competitiveness and the exercise it allowed him.  I was drawn to football mainly because of these talented young girls who were determined to play, and their desire ignited my passion to help them achieve this goal.  I am humbled and thankful for the recognition and I am equally elated to see that Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Howard ‘Juicy’ Bell are also recognized for their service that helps to keep Jamaica’s flag flying high on the global stage.”

Well Deserved !!

We extend a hearty congratulations and blessings to our young Jamaican ambassador, Khadija “Bunny” Shaw, a member of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying women football team, the Reggae Girlz and Jamaica’s all-time leading female football scorer, who is also being awarded with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer (OD).

As well, we recognize the tremendous amount of years Howard ‘Juicy’ Bell has given to the Jamaica Football Federation and the sport of football. Both are well-deserving of their award and we look forward to achieving so much more in Jamaican football together.
