A designer resale boutique experience
This past April, a lovely idea became a reality for long time friends Karen Marley and Monique Aquino with the grand opening of a chic downtown LA location know as Buttons & Bows. What started off as just a blog, then a successful eBay business, finally turned into a brick and mortar boutique.
The press is in, and high reviews raving about the shopping experience at Button & Bows. Not only is the price right for designer clothing and accessories from the likes of Jimmy Choo, Chanel, Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs and Dior just to name a few, but the boutique ‘vibe’ itself is also getting rave reviews! This a great location in the downtown LA area, and simply walking in the door is an ‘experience’.
We had a chance to catch up with Karen to see how things are going. The conversation went something like this:
How have things been going since the grand opening this past Spring?
It’s been awesome! The community has been so supportive and the press we’ve received has been amazing.
You are in a perfect downtown location, which is great for fashion-ista’s in LA, however for us Style and Shopping junkies from around the world, how can we access your store from afar?
We have recently opened Buttons & Bows online so we can accommodate fashionistas all over the world.Buttons & Bows website
You were only 8 when your father passed, and at that age, most of us do not really “dig” our parents’ sense of fashion… however, truth be told, Bob rocked his denim and style like no other! Did you love his style back in the day? Or did it take awhile to appreciate his “look”? Did you get some of your sense of style from him?
At eight I loved everything about my father, his sense of style was not something I paid attention to, I just knew that everything about him was cool and people around the world agreed. His sense of style was so effortless and if anything, I have inherited that from him.
We have heard alot about how fond both you and Monique are of foods and cooking. Any thoughts about opening up a restaurant in the near future? 🙂
Not as yet but we truly enjoy hosting dinner parties and maybe if the right opportunity came along, we might have to take it.
Get to know the ladies of Buttons & Bows!
Karen, daughter of..you guessed it, legendary music and fashion icon himself, Bob Marley.
Following close in the fashionable foot steps of her father, Karen’s style cannot be pinpointed and is fun and experimental, but always with a touch of grace and sophistication. That style aesthetic is reflected in how she buys for the BBLA store.
Always keen on chic aesthetics Karen went into the interior design business in Jamaica, offering creative services and consulting. When she’s not busy scouring for amazing finds for BBLA, she works with her sister Cedella as assistant designer for Catch a Fire. And when she’s not doing that Karen also represents the Marley legacy within various business dealings– Marley Coffee, House of Marley, and Cedella Marley Design.
As if she wasn’t multi-faceted enough, she also kills it in the kitchen & loves throwing gourmet dinner parties for friends.
Monique, aka Dillon, has worked in the fashion industry for the last 9 years, from retail, to production, visual merchandising, and working as a buyer. Having had her start working at a vintage store, her love of a ‘good hunt’ has always propelled her aspiration to keep just doing that.
When she’s not working at buttons & bows headquarters, she writes for various blogs, discussing the latest in indie music, places to wine and dine, and fashion updates for the BBLA blog.
You can usually find her aspiring to be a food-stylist as she is always food-porning out on lunch and dinner dates.
