Kingsley Ben-Adir will play the highly coveted role of legendary music icon Bob Marley in the upcoming Paramount biopic after a year-long search.
The long-awaited biopic based on the life of international music icon Bob Marley has now cast actor Kingsley Ben-Adir to portray the beloved singer in the upcoming Paramount Pictures film. The director of the recent Academy Award-nominated Best Picture film King Richard, director Reinaldo Marcus Green, is set to direct the high-profile project. Meanwhile, Cedella Marley, who is CEO of the Marley estate, is producing the anticipated film, alongside brother Ziggy Marley and their mother Rita Marley via Tuff Gong. Terence Winter, known for his work on The Sopranos and The Wolf of Wall Street, is penning the film with Frank E. Flowers.
Now, Deadline has revealed that in a search that spanned the globe and lasted for over a year, Paramount Pictures has found the actor who will portray Marley in the first-ever official theatrical biopic film, as Kingsley Ben-Adir is now set to play the music icon. The actor recently portrayed Malcolm X to notable critical praise, in the Academy Award-nominated film, One Night in Miami. The actor has also appeared in popular television shows such as Peaky Blinders and The OA, and is currently set to play a lead villain in the upcoming Marvel series, Secret Invasion.
Marley’s remarkable career has allowed the singer to become recognized as a global figure in popular culture around the world. The influential reggae artist, who passed way after a battle with cancer in 1981, is currently one of the best-selling musicians of all-time. His Legend album alone was certified 15x platinum in the US, and it is only the second album to ever remain on the Billboard 200 chart for 13 years.
